Love Never Thinks of Itself as Sacrifice

 

But Love Forgave and Overcame All

“Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God's deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.” (Acts 2:22-24)

For God, who is love, was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting our sins against us (1 John 4:8; 2 Corinthians 5:19).

The Second Death is the Death of Death

“The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each one was judged according to his deeds. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death – the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:13-14)

Discipleship is learning to live daily in the reality of the love of God, the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

God, Grace and Glory

God is love.

Grace is the love of God reaching out to us.

Glory is the revelation of that love and grace 

— the revelation we have in Jesus Christ.

Christ’s Love Has No Shame

There is nothing 

that could ever put to shame 

the love Christ has for us.

Doing Good Theology

When we love well,

we are doing good theology,

for God is love.

Free Will and the Divine Image

The love of God 

burns away all our delusions 

so that our wills may be truly free 

and we may become 

the divine image God 

created us to be.

It Frees Our Wills

The love of God never forces our wills

... it frees our wills.

The Ability to Pour Himself Out for Love

The glory of God 

is not found in the will to power 

but in the will to love. 

The greatness of God 

is not found in the ability to take 

but in the ability to 

pour Himself out

Divine love is a fine madness.

that the love of God

is not deeper still,

pouring itself out,

even on a cross,

for our sake.

Like Leaven in Bread

In Jesus Christ, God became human.

How can this not but transform

all of humanity,like leaven in bread?

This is how the kingdom of God works,

and the leaven of God’s love.

The Blessing of Our Helplessness

How blessed it is to realize our helplessness,

for then we can hope in God

and trust His love.

How blessed it is to acknowledge our sin,

for then we can hope in God

and trust His forgiveness.
